What kind of fish am I ....

Post by NathanL »

Caught this little fella in the cast net today.

I've never seen one before?

At first I just thought it was a flathead - but it wasn't.. (I don't think) body was way too 'thick' if you know what I mean. But the mouth looked very 'flatheadish'.

anyway have a look at this little fella in my live bait bucket and tell me what you think.

He had some spendid colours on him - bronze/gold body and lots of red on his tail (although it has all just come out as brown in the pics... :-/)

was a very interesting day cast netting today, caught this fella, a baby barracuda, a baby queeny, a baby barra, a baby (infant) ock ock..
the list goes on, obviously been a good breeding season.

Looks like the result of multipal infedility adventures between a Green Jobfish, Bonefish, Whiting and an American Snook. In other words I have not got a clue, but would love to know. Google here I come.

Yeah looks like a gudgeon from those fins but I thought they were fresh water only...
From that mouth you would think its a kind of whiting. I saw a fishing show recently where they were getting whiting in WA and they caught one that was way weird but looked bluer than this one. Maybe theres a number of types of whiting.
Oh well...someone will be near their Grants guide!
Its not a crisis unless there is blood around.
If there is blood around......well its a police matter...

Its one of several species of gudgeons SF, that one you can purchase at most of the aquariams around town. For some reason they sit vertically against the glass in a tank :-? .

Once again the knowledge on here astounds me. :)

Yes I believe the majority has it, freshwater gudeon.
It converted over to freshwater without any fuss or bother and is now happily in my pond chilling out under the lillies.
He's werid though, he looks to me like a bottom dweller, but he hangs vertically in the water under the lillies... :|
Seems to be quite happy and feeding on anything I throw in and is now even more colourful much more red.

Werid that I caught him basically at the mouth of bleesers creek though, he had obviously got washed down from the palmo lakes or something near there.
