Metery off the Bank!!!!
Went for yet another fish down at Howard River rockbar late last night to fish the outgoing . As always the rats were touching up the large plastics that I was using (110mm slick rigs and tsunami shad's) with some nailing the tails off , which really sh!ts me . Caught 6 within 45mins with one falling 4cm's short of legal size , yet they were all pretty green anyway with still alot of fresh pumping over the rockbar .
After hurting all the mouths on those barra it went pretty quiet for about 40mins till on the thousand cast got a very solid hook up from the opposite bank upstream from the last elevated rockbar . Being only 40m's away and tide starting to rip out had to thumb the fish a bit to try and bring it back before it could disappeared around the corner . Not sure what i was on at this stage as my head torch's beam didnt illuminate that far , until it broke the surface and made a mighty splash . Now i was sure it was a barra and a biggen too , with a fight that demanded full concentration managed to slowly bring it in getting the first glimpse from 10m's away .
She was a meter for sure or very close , with 2 more half hearted runs brought the big girl to the bank . With the lure being down its throat grabbed her by the bottom jaw and gently caressed her up away from harms distance . Took the lure out and quickly rushed back to my bike to measured her up, she came in at 101cm . With a few diffucult snaps because i was on my own , finally manged to get a good one with the whole fish in it . Sprinted back to the waters edge, placed it in and with first touch of water she was gone . Pretty satisfied now decided to head on home to reminisce the moment .
Tackle caught on- 4 rats on black slick rigs, 2 with green bomber
