unacceptable...
however, isnt the reason they need to, to create this shipping channel, soley because nt fishos cried about losing access to the catalina creeks???
dunno about you guys but i would have much rather lost access to those creeks than them shorten their jetty and need to blast a new channel??
surley there will be no fish left in the catalinas after this anyway, let alone anywhere near the blasting.. seems like a lose lose situation to me.. shoulda just let them have the catalinas

My understanding is the plan is to let off up to 3 bombs a day for 14 months. Each blast will kill most animals wthin a 500 m radius.
East Arm is going to be stuffed and the shock waves will be banging about the rest of the harbour.
This is why I live in Darwin so the fishing can be stuffed up like the rest of the country.
If it is true that Inpex has found an alternative technology, then Inpex deserves praise. Many companies wouldn't have bothered even looking and would just take the cheap and easy option. Perhaps they are a good corporate citizen?

Cant anyone see what they are planning??? Its a foot in the door for the use of explosives , they are sprouting clandestine technology to stem the masses then when we are all convinced they will change theyre approach.

I expect Inpex knows it will get the go ahead even with the blasting Yabba, I can't see anyone stopping them, given the money behind this development.
The first rule of development - money always wins.
I think the fact that they are looking for an alternative method of removing the reef is encouraging. But I too am cynical, it would be nice to be proven wrong and see some responsible corporate action for a change.

As Ive mentioned before I worked on the early stages of the Ichthys project as well as the Van Gogh field , I know how shrewd this company and all Oil Co's are....
Remember BP and the Gulf Disaster , they promised the world that theyre solution to stem the flow would work...
What about James Price Point in W.A.....Dampier Peninsula , the list goes on
Are we going to roll over and let them destroy our wonderful Harbour...is it really worth it in the end?
Thats Oil Co's for ya!
And your on the knock there Matt $$$$$ always wins unfortunately

A total cop out, there is no need for it. There are plenty of other methods available before resorting to explosives. Explosives are just quicker and less expensive than rock grinders.
